How to play Football Top 10
Top 10 — the football tenable format — doesn't test what you know, it tests what you can retrieve. You get a question, something like “Real Madrid's 10 most expensive signings”, and ten empty slots. You almost certainly know all ten answers. Getting all ten out of your head at once is the hard part.
The idea in one paragraph
Every question has exactly ten correct answers, ranked by a number. Type a name; if it's on the list it drops into its own rank with its value shown. You have 5 wrong guesses. Order is irrelevant — naming the seventh before the first is fine.
How to think about it
- Start with the obvious one. The name at the top is usually the one everybody knows, and it opens a slot for free.
- Sweep by era. The names that won't come to you are usually from a different decade — when the 2010s run dry, drop back to the 2000s.
- Save the shaky guesses for last. Five lives is not many; burn three on hunches and you've no room left to actually think.
- Repeats are free. Typing the same wrong answer twice costs nothing — you just get a nudge.
Where the questions come from
The current lists are calculated from verified transfer data: 188 fee records drawn from Wikipedia's most-expensive-transfers list and the English season lists. Nothing is typed in by hand, so the numbers aren't guesses — and the lists refresh themselves as the data grows. Tournament lists are coming.
Scoring, sharing and the daily reset
