Frequently Asked Questions

How do you play Football Grid?

Each row and column of the 3x3 board is a club. Tap an empty cell and pick a footballer who played for BOTH the row club AND the column club. You have 9 guesses in total.

Do loan spells count?

Yes — every club in the player's Wikipedia career table counts, including loan spells. A single season on loan still counts as having played for that club.

Can I use the same player in two cells?

No — each footballer can only fill one cell, so deciding where to spend a well-travelled journeyman is part of the strategy.

What does a wrong guess cost?

Every guess (right or wrong) uses one of your 9 attempts. On a miss the cell stays empty and you can retry it with your remaining guesses. Your score is the number of cells filled.

Does the board change every day?

Yes — the club combination is generated from the date, and every cell is guaranteed to have at least one valid answer. Everyone plays the same board on the same day.
