How to Play Goal Battle
Goal Battle is ten head-to-heads a day, and every one asks the same question: has this player scored more or fewer career league goals than the one you have just been shown? The left player's total is given to you. The right player's is not. That is the whole game, and it is much harder than it sounds.
How a duel works
Two footballers appear side by side. The left one's career league goal tally is revealed — the real number, not a rounded hint. You then decide whether the right one has scored MORE or FEWER. The answer locks in, the real figure appears, and the next duel loads. Crucially, a wrong answer does not end the game: unlike a classic higher-lower run, you always play all ten. Your score is simply how many you got right, which means every player's score on a given day is directly comparable.
How the goal counts are calculated
The total is league goals from every club in the player's career, added up across his whole senior career and including loan spells. International goals do not count. Cup goals do not count either — no domestic cups, no Champions League. This is worth internalising, because it changes the answer surprisingly often: a striker famous for European nights may have a much smaller number here than your memory of him suggests, while a long-serving domestic goalscorer will have more.
How to actually be good at this
- Think in career length, not in fame. Fifteen seasons at twelve goals a year beats five spectacular ones. Longevity outscores brilliance almost every time.
- Discount the cup reputation. Anyone you remember mainly for finals and knockout goals is being flattered by your memory in a competition that is not counted here.
- Watch the position carefully. An attacking midfielder with a long career often outscores a striker with a short one, and this is where most wrong answers come from.
- Use the revealed number as a scale, not a target. If the left player is on 40, the question is rarely close; if he is on 150, you are being asked to separate two genuinely elite scorers.
- Remember that ties never happen. The duels are built so the two totals are never equal — there is always a correct answer.
Where the numbers come from
Goal totals are summed from the career statistics tables on Wikipedia, club by club, which is the same source the rest of the site uses. Because those tables separate league appearances from cup and continental ones, the split described above falls out of the data rather than being a rule we invented. Sharing and the daily reset
The ten duels are generated from the date, so everyone playing on the same day faces the same matchups in the same order — a score out of ten actually means something when you compare it. The share button copies your result without revealing the players. New duels arrive at midnight in your own time zone.
